A warm welcome back to all of our students for the Autumn term! We are a few weeks into classes now and I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to look at what we have coming up over this very exciting term.

Petit Performers (Pre-school dance) Classes

Our Petit Performers classes are a fairly new addition to our weekly timetable. These specially designed classes for 2-5 year olds are a wonderful opportunity to discover the world of dance and theatre in a safe, fun environment.

We offer two different levels of classes - our Parent and Toddler session for 2-4 year olds, which includes a combination of Ballet, Street and Musical Theatre, and our Pre-School Ballet and Street Dance/Musical Theatre classes which encourage more independence for the younger dancer. All of these classes use familiar songs, props and instruments to develop rhythm, coordination and balance in a creative, engaging way.

This term we are working on moving in time to the music, the importance of warming up at the start of the class and developing our bending and stretching motion throughout the session. All of the above is, of course, learnt in a fun, exciting way so that all of our students feel energised and inspired each week!

Musical Theatre

We have introduced two new Musical Theatre classes this term, one on a Monday afternoon in Brockham for age 4+ and the other on a Wednesday evening in Dorking for age 6+.

These classes focus on all aspects of performing in the theatre - singing, dancing and acting. Each session, we will look at a combination of these disciplines, culminating in a piece from a popular show, for example, Matilda the Musical, School of Rock or Oliver! Musical Theatre allows students to express themselves both individually and as part of a group, learning from their peers and creating new friendships.

Our Monday class is currently working on drama games, travelling dance steps and a routine to ‘Friend Like Me’ from ‘Aladdin’. Our Wednesday group is looking at projecting their voices when reading poetry and a song and dance from ‘Oliver!’

Ballet

Our Tuesday Ballet classes in Reigate continue to be popular as we are one of the only dance schools in the area to offer the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance syllabus. This wonderful programme teaches the foundations of ballet in an accessble, imaginative way, appropriate to the age and stage of the student. Natalie has registered teacher status with the RAD, completing rigorous training over a number of years to be able to teach this highly recognised syllabus to a variety of age groups in a safe, professional way.

We are now offering a Monday Ballet class in Brockham for ages 4+. This class is for both beginners and those who have some previous experience of ballet - all welcome! Along with our Tuesday classes, we are working on correct ballet posture, perfecting our demi-plié and the importance on warm up exercises to enhance the rest of the session.

Street Dance

Our Street Dance classes are extremely popular and we continue to offer a number of classes each week. On a Wednesday evening we are at St Joseph’s Church in Dorking, we are in Buckland on a Saturday morning and we now have two after school classes running at Powell Corderoy Primary School.

Our Street Dance classes are working on developing their technique this term. Students are focusing on linking steps, such as slides, moving rhythmically to the music and travelling steps across the space. We always learn a routine towards the end of the class which tends to change every few weeks, allowing our students to move to different types of music and to keep the content of the class interesting.

Silver Swans

Our brand new Silver Swans class will be starting at Brockham Village Hall on Monday 31st October 10-11am. This is a specially designed, low impact ballet class, created by the Royal Academy of Dance for older adult learners. Open, fun and accesible, everyone is welcome - no matter how old you are!

We will work on coordination, balance and musicality in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Silver Swans also helps to promote mental wellbeing, confidence and a sense of self-expression. It is an excellent opportunity to meet new people, who share a joy for dance and a passion for life! Come along and join us for a free trial!

Other exciting events

As well as all of the above each week, we have some very exciting events planned for the coming term.

Community

We’ve recently attended two fantastic community events over recent weeks, including a family event with Surrey Hills Tinies at Brockham Village Hall on Saturday 1st October, and Mindfest at Dorking Halls on Sunday 9th October.

Both of these events had fabulous local businesses exhibiting and we are proud to be involved with both organisations.

Halloween

As always, we are running our next half-term workshop and the theme is, of course, Halloween!! Our holiday workshops have become very popular with a mix of dance, games and crafts so book your place here now! As with our weekly classes, we only allow a maximum of 15 students per workshop so don’t delay in booking your spot.

Pantomime

We are extremely excited to announce that this year we will be going to the Pantomime! Live Love Perform will be taking a group of our students and their families/friends to see Cinderella at Dorking Halls on Wednesday 21st December at 5pm.

This is a really great chance to see a live show in the theatre and to gain inspiration to help with performance skills. It is also a lovely opportunity to have some fun and embrace the festive spirit! All teachers will have leaflets with details on how to book your panto tickets in classes over the next couple of weeks so make sure you ask so that you don’t miss out!

Christmas Performance

Finally, we have decided that what better way to celebrate Christmas than to put on another Live Love Perform show! Rudolph’s Rocking Recital will be taking place on Saturday 17th December at Brockham Village Hall and is a wonderful way for all of our students to demonstrate their hard work over the term, invite all of their family and friends to watch, and most importantly, to enjoy performing on stage! Further details will be announced over the coming weeks but please put the date in your diary for what I’m sure will be a fantastic Christmas event.
